A Passionate Start and a Steadfast Climb

Melba’s journey at Dillard’s began when she was just 17 years old in 1949, as an elevator girl at the Tyler, Texas branch. A “Grinder” Who Went Above and Beyond

Melba’s son, Terry Mebane, lovingly describes his mother as a “grinder.” She would arrive at the store well before it opened, securing her parking spot and ensuring she was ready to start her day. She even opted for shorter lunch breaks to make the most of the opportunities during the busiest hours. Her dedication knew no bounds.

A Timeless Passion for Work

Even in her 70s and 80s, Melba continued to dedicate 40 hours a week to her role behind the cosmetics counter. A Fond Farewell and a Lasting Legacy

Sadly, health issues led Melba to retire from her second home after 74 incredible years. But her dedication and tremendous impact did not go unnoticed.
