‘Good Morning America’ anchor Robin Roberts marries longtime partner Amber Laign in ‘magical’ backyard ceremony

Robin Roberts and her longtime partner Amber Laign are officially married!

The couple tied the knot in a “magical” backyard ceremony attended by family and friends on September 8.

“An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception…ohhhh the dancing!!” Roberts shared in an Instagram Sunday. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”

The Good Morning America co-anchor first met Laign in 2005 after their mutual friends set them up on a blind date.

“Our two friends, my friend Alex, her friend Bert, finally said, ‘Enough, you two are going to meet,’” Laign told GMA previously. “I remember just walking up and she’s just beautiful, and she took my breath away, and she still does.”

Over the following 18 years, the women proved time after time they would always be there for one another.

Whether it was being there for their partner as they grieved the loss of a parent or celebrating hard fought battles against breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome.

After nearly two decades together, the couple discussed the possibility of turning their dreams of getting married into a reality during the pandemic.

The couple proposed to each over a plate of calamari at their favorite restaurant in Connecticut.

“We took the calamari rings and we slapped them on each other’s fingers and we just we proposed to one another,” Roberts said.

“Now looking back, it was pretty fitting for us to not have a down on one knee [proposal] and one person doing it … it was just us hanging out in our little hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot and putting calamari rings on each other and saying, ‘Let’s go. Let’s do it.’”

Although the official proposal came at the end of 2022, Roberts didn’t announce it until January 2023 when asked by Gabby Bernstein, motivational speaker and author, what she was a “yes for” this coming year.

“I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet,” the co-anchor said.  “We’re getting married this year. It’s something we have talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill, and it is saying yes to that and that next chapter.”

“We’ve really early on learned how to become a partnership and work together and truly, truly trust one another,” Laign told GMA in the days leading up to their big day. “And to have someone by your side like that is a gift.”
