They Learned Their Coach Was A Backup Dancer For MC Hammer So He Busted A Move

Many people have a passion in life and they will do anything they possibly can to pursue it. They may spend a lifetime focused on one particular area, but not everybody follows that trend.

Alonzo “Zo” Carter is somebody who certainly has passion, but it isn’t just focused on a single area. He actually has two different areas that he focuses on, but most people only know about one of them.

Zo works as the assistant football coach for the San Jose State Spartans in California. He has a love of football and coaching and has helped many student-athletes over the years.

For the most part, he is known for his abilities on the field but every once in a while, people also recognize him from something he did in his earlier years. When they do so, he doesn’t deny it, he actually gives them a treat.

Zo had a second passion and he is still pretty good at it. Back in 1989, he was going to college and had an opportunity to audition for a music video. It was for MC Hammer, and the song was ‘Let’s Get It Started.’

It didn’t take many moves before he was hired. He continued to dance for a while but when the summer ended, he was preparing to go back to college. That is when MC Hammer’s career took off, so now he had to decide.

Would he go back to college and pursue a career so he could be a coach or would he continue as a dancer for the popular rapper? He decided to dance, and for the next three years, he toured with MC Hammer.

This was more than just dancing on stage for a rapper as a backup to a concert. He had an opportunity to dance for the MTV Video Music Awards, the American Movie Awards, and the Grammys, and he was even on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Despite all that he did and his love for dancing, he still had a love for football. He eventually left the group and went back to his high school in Oakland, California, and started coaching football and track.

That was quite some time ago, but these days, his students figure it out every once in a while. In this particular case, however, it was the head coach who learned that his assistant was a dancer in the past.

Zo decided he would give the players and the coaches a treat, saying: “Next thing you know, it’s ‘U Can’t Touch This,’” Zo laughed. “I was like, ‘Aw, man. He put me on front street.’”

He spoke about how the dance moves were choreographed 25 years ago but they are still very strong. He was also surprised with himself and how the impromptu dance session turned out.

Fortunately, they captured it on video and you have the opportunity to see it right here:
